Short answer
EventScan's page is clear: snap a photo, upload from the camera roll or paste a screenshot, and AI reads the date, time and location into an event; one image can hold several events, one tap adds them to Apple or Google Calendar, you can share by iMessage or export .ics, and the free tier scans up to 5 events a month with Pro unlimited. SnapCal's free tier is 10 recognitions a month, one event per screenshot, written to the iPhone calendar and optionally Feishu Calendar, with a subscription or lifetime membership for unlimited use. For Google Calendar and several events in one image, pick EventScan; for Chinese chat screenshots plus Feishu, pick SnapCal. Third-party facts checked 2026-10-16.

When to pick EventScan
- A single flyer or schedule holds several events, such as shift rosters or fixtures, and you want them scanned in one go.
- You use Google Calendar and want one-tap add, or an .ics file to send to others.
- You scan only a few times a month and 5 free events are enough.
When to pick SnapCal
- You recognize more than 5 screenshots a month and want a wider free allowance (10 a month), then a subscription or lifetime plan.
- You want a Chinese interface and your screenshots come from Chinese chats and notices in WeChat or Feishu.
- You want events written to the iPhone calendar and synced to Feishu Calendar.
Limits of SnapCal
- One screenshot makes one event, so an image with several events has to be captured in several passes.
- The screenshot is compressed and sent to an AI service for recognition (not kept afterwards), so it is not purely on-device; on-device OCR is only for the preview and is never uploaded.
- iPhone only for now: no Mac or Android version.
Three things to test yourself before you commit
- Take a roster with several dates and compare: EventScan scans several at once, SnapCal makes one event per screenshot.
- Take 3 Chinese group notices and compare the times and places they extract and whether you can edit each field on the confirmation screen.
- Count how many you recognize in a month: past 5, EventScan's free tier hits its limit.
Moving over from EventScan, or using both
EventScan writes events to the Apple or Google calendar you choose, so saved events need no migration. To switch to SnapCal, clear any unsaved events from EventScan's scan history first, then install SnapCal and use the share sheet or Recent Screenshots for new ones. The two coexist without trouble and neither touches existing calendars.
